Dakota Dean Murphy, age 16 of Holton, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 following a car accident. Dakota Dean was born on August 1, 1997 in Clearwater, Florida to Shawn and Buffy (Gregory) Murphy and moved to the Fremont area in 1999. Dakota Dean was a junior at Fremont High School where he was active in theater program, has played the saxophone in the Fremont High School jazz, marching band and orchestra for the past 6 years, was active in the student council and had served as president of his class in his freshman and sophomore year, was the Elk’s senior year president nominee, and had also enjoyed track and bowling. Dakota Dean had been a volunteer during the holiday’s at Tru North in Fremont, had volunteered at the Abused Women’s and Children’s center in Muskegon, had been a summer Teen Challenge youth counselor, had been a youth leader at Vacation Bible School at Fremont Wesleyan Church in Fremont, a blood drive volunteer and had been selected to be an assistant counselor at Camp Henry this summer. Dakota Dean was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Fremont.
Dakota Dean is survived by his parents, Shawn and Buffy Murphy of Holton; his brother, Shawn Memphis Murphy of Holton; maternal grandparents, Charles and Connie Gregory of Grant; maternal great grandmother, Betty Bush of Belding; aunts and uncles, Billie (Mario) Montoya of Fremont; Jess (Mary) Gregory of Grant; Gary (Amanda) Gregory; his cousins, Angel Montoya and daughter, Serena “Rena” Nelson; Zack Montoya; Jess Gregory and his daughter, Lacy Gregory; Guy Gregory; Amanda Gregory; Kalysta Gregory; Makenna Gregory; and many other family and friends. Dakota Dean was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ronald and Lynda Murphy.
TIME OF REMEMBERANCE: Friday, May 16, 2014 from 1-3pm at the Faith Baptist Church 7729 W 48th Street Fremont MI with TIME OF CELEBRATION SERVICES on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 3pm at the church. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Dakota Dean Murphy Family, c/o Crandell Funeral Home, for an outdoor memorial garden to be built in memory of Dakota Dean.
