Ed R. Mooney, age 66 of Fremont, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Ed was born on September 12, 1941 in Lansing to Robert T. and Ina R. (Springer) Mooney and moved to Fremont at an early age. He leaves behind six Irish Setters and many special friends in the Irish Setter Club of Michigan, Irish Setter Club of America and the dog world in general. Ed also volunteered for 25 years on the Fremont High School Football “chain gang” each football season.

Ed was a member of the Fremont Moose Lodge #1555 for many years, enjoyed playing golf, had been a bowler for many years and was an avid Detroit Red Wings fan. Ed had other special interests including a fondness for the outdoors, working in his yard, boating and spending time by the water, with many trips to Gulf Shores, Alabama. Ed will be missed in all the aspects of his family I am sure but his Irish Setter family will surely miss his spirit of good sportsmanship and love for the breed. If there is anything that I personally can do to help, don't be afraid to ask. I am aware that you folks don't know me very well but I am always willing to aid when needed. God bless you and yours.

Barbara, My thoughts are with you with
this incredible loss in your life. My brother passed away last week and I can
realize some of your hurt. You and Ed were so kind to me when I traveled to
the dog shows feeling like such a stranger but you two always greeted me like
I was family...i will always be grateful for that care. Haven't seen me in a
while because my 91 year old mother got ill, so I moved her from Pennsylvania
to Michigan. she is doing much better now and I flirt with the idea of
working with my red babies again. If you come south give me notice, I would
love to be with you. Again my heart felt sorrow.

Dear Barb and Family:
I have not known Ed but for three years and he and Barb always made me feel
like I have known them my whole life. I have never meet a man that was so
kind, and willing to help a hand and he knew of no stranger, he was always
smiling and loved each day he was given. His love for his family and dogs
surrounded him and it was like a bright glow when you were around them, a true
gentlemen and I am honored to be among his friends.
Last year I was faced with my dogs being poisioned and their lost by tanted
dog food. Ed and Barb were there for me every day, I was not aware at the
time Ed was still fighting his own battle with cancer (he was very private)
but Ed and Barb took the time for me, something I will hold dear to my heart.
I have said this to many and do believe God gives us angels here on earth to
help the helpless and to me they were those angels. I always looked forward
with anticipation on show weekends, waiting to get the call from Ed whether it
be we won or just a report he was always happy and cheerful and made the day a
good day no matter what. Ed always found the positive in everything, yes,
there were times of disappointments but he still found the positive even then.
I will miss Ed but he will never be forgotten. In a very short time he taught
me so much and I will be forever grateful. Ed leaves behind the greatest gift
for all who knew him and that is the gift of "his love for life".
We have all lost a Wonderful Friend. May the Shamrocks Fall Softly My Dear
Friend.
Barb I cannot be there for the services but my love and thoughts and prayers
are with you and the family.
Barb, Cassie and family, I will always be there
With All My Love and Deepest Sympathy,
Leta

Mrs. Mooney, Mike and Paula,
My parents had just picked me up at the airport and they told me that
your Dad had just passed away. Such sad news to come back to on a
rare visit to Fremont. I have not seen your family in many years, but
you have always crossed my mind whenever I would come back home and
drive around town. I have many wonderful memories of Paula and I
dating in high school, Mr. Mooney's red Mustang, and going water
skiing on Fremont lake with your Dad at the helm. Please know that you
are all in my thoughts and prayers and that my heart goes out to your
entire family in this time of loss.
Sincerely,
Todd Caris

I am sadden to hear of Ed's passing. We did have some GOOD times at the Moose gatherings ie: the singing group mimicking 'sunrise band' and bowling tournaments. Please accept my deepest condolences as I am not able to be in person to pay my respects.
Praying that you'll sense Godʼs presence
In this time of grief
And feel Godʼs love surrounding you
And know His inner peace
For God cares so much for you
And wipes each tear you cry
You never need to feel alone
For Heʼll never leave your side
