Earl Smalligan
Earl Smalligan, age 88, of Fremont, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2008 at Transitional Health Services in Fremont. He was born on November 24, 1919, in Fremont to Jake and Jennie (Lambers) Smalligan and married Irene Hoekman in 1942 and later married Jenny Tubergen and Carol Cygeirt. Earl was a farmer, Harvestor salesman, and lifelong resident of Fremont. He, along with 5 other men, started the Newaygo County Agricultural Fair in 1955 and served as their first president. Earl was member of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont.
Earl is survived by his wife, Carol Cygeirt of Fremont; children, Gary Earl (Linda) Smalligan of White Cloud, Marcia K. (John) Hofman of Zeeland, Kenneth Ray (Vicki) Smalligan of Fremont, and Lori (Robert) TenHoor of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; step-children, Carl (Cindy) Cygeirt of Holton, Debra (Bob) Goodrick of Muskegon, Timothy (Trisha) Cygeirt of Fremont, Pamela (David) Schmitt of Fremont, Michael (Joni) Cygeirt of Holton, and Brian (Debra) Cygeirt of Holton; brother-in-law- Ray (Polly) Hoekman of Fremont; 10 grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren. He was preceded by his wifes Irene and Jenny; sisters, Helen Hendrickson and Ella Newhouse.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at the Crandell Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with funeral services on Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont. Interment will be in Sherman Township Cemetery. For a more lasting memorial, friends are asked to consider Fremont Christian Schools. Earl was a very loving man. He will always have a place in my heart for all the kindness he showed to me. Earl will be deeply missed for he touched many lives.
