Charles E. Derby, age 88 of Twin Lake, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at the Newaygo County Compassion Home in Fremont. Chuck was born on April 10, 1935 in Muskegon to William “Bill” and Frances (Lods) Derby. Chuck joined the United States Army at the age of 17 and after his honorable discharge, Chuck returned to Muskegon where he found employment at the Brunswick Corporation where he worked primarily in the ball department for 42 years until his retirement. Chuck met and later married Donna Mae Middlecamp on December 7, 1962 in Muskegon and they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in 2023. Chuck and Donna bought a home on Clear Lake and enjoyed living on the lake for the past 59 years. Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Muskegon Eagles, Holton American Legion Post 397, Muskegon Lithuanian Club, North Muskegon VFW and Amvets.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Donna of Twin Lake; his son, Ty Derby of Holton; grandsons, Lars (Brenda) Derby and Maeson Derby; great grandchildren, Savannah, Ethan, and Elana; his brother, Ken (Karen) Derby; several nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Frances; his brothers, Bob, Don and Mike Derby; and his brother-in-law, Louis Middlecamp.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE WITH MILITARY HONORS will be held at the Holton American Legion, Post #397 on April 20, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Newaygo County Compassion Home in Fremont or Holton American Legion for memorial contributions in memory of Chuck.
