Edward Richard Yob

Edward Richard Yob, age 87 of Hesperia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at his home with his son and daughter at his side.  Ed was born on June 14, 1936 in Hesperia on the family property where he resided to Cirillo Richard and Louisa Barbara (Bertolas) Yob. Ed lived on the farm and graduated from Hesperia High School in 1955.  Ed met and later married Lois Carlston on August 7, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Muskegon and Lois preceded him in death on November 13, 2010.

Ed has been a lifelong resident of the Hesperia area, an active member of Christ the King church in Hesperia and had worked at Gerber Products Company in Fremont for 46 years until his retirement in 2001.  Ed had spent 25 years as plant painter and was highly respected and well known for his strong work ethic. Ed had a passion for running & was one of the founding members of the Gerber Running Team. He was known for his encouragement and assistance with other runners and those beginning a running career.  Ed was competitive & one to start fast and finish strong in his road races. 

 Ed was well known for his large yearly garden, often 2 acres in size, which he took great pride in planting and maintaining. He loved to show people his garden and was generous in sharing his homegrown vegetables with all. Ed enjoyed hosting annual corn roasts and hayrides for family at his home throughout the years with Lois. Ed always made himself available to his children to share his knowledge and help them in home repair projects and painting. He truly treasured the family trip he took with his son and daughter to Italy and Switzerland.

 Ed is survived by his children, Roger (fiancé, Laura Tay) Yob of Clare and Grant; Kathleen (Troy) Stewart of Traverse City; his grandchildren, Ella Stewart, Jada Stewart, Trey Stewart, Ben Yob, Emily Yob, Kayla (Todd) Hinton; his great grandson, Rio Hinton; his only surviving sister, Rose (Mario) Caruso, sister-in-law Annette Yob and many nieces and nephews.  Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; and his siblings Joseph (Eura), Albino, Benjamin (Elsie), William (Effie), Louise (Salvatore) Lomonaco, Victor (Angeline), Julius (Susan), Faustina (Robert) Loftus, and Frank Yob.

VISITATION : Friday, March 22, 2024 from 5-7pm at Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel 7193 W. 48th Street Fremont MI  49412. 

ROSARY SERVICES : Friday, March 22, 2024 at 7:00 pm at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel. 

VISITATION : Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 10-10:45am at Christ The King Catholic Church 263 Elm Street Hesperia MI 49421. 

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL : Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at Christ The King Catholic Church. 

TIME OF FELLOWSHIP : Immediately following Mass Services.

 GRAVESIDE SERVICES : Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 1:45 at the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Brunswick - 6382 S. Maple Island Road Fremont MI 49412.
