Alberta J. Colwell, age 72 of Holton, passed away Monday, January 15, 2001 at the Gerber Memorial Health Services in Fremont. She was born on September 1, 1928 in Sault Saint Marie, Michigan to Albert and Velma (Moore) Stringer and married Leonard Colwell on October 7, 1946 in Muskegon. She has been a resident of the Holton Area for the past 45 years and had been a LPN at the Muskegon General Hospital Pediatric Department for 22 years until her retirement in 1985. She had also been active in 4-H with horses. She is survived by her husband, Leonard of Holton; her children, David (Gloria) Colwell of Rothbury; Sharon (William) Sanders of Muskegon; Michael (Cindy) Colwell of Brunswick; Patrick (Noreen) Colwell of Holton; Jeannette Vermilyea of Grand Haven; daughter-in-law, Dawn Colwell of Holton; 16 grandchildren; several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Danny Colwell and one brother, Elden Stringer. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 17, 2001 from the Crandell Funeral Home Chapel in Fremont with Rev. David Dickinson of the Fremont Christian Church, Disciples of Christ presiding with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery in Holton.
