Alice L. Burns, age 92 of Holton, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in North Muskegon. Alice was born on September 23, 1923 in Grant Township, Oceana County to Arthur and Ruth (Thompson) Sallgren and married Elmer Burns on July 20, 1946 in Shelby. Elmer preceded her in death on April 20, 1987. Alice moved to the Holton area in 1950 and had worked at the Teledyne Continental Motors Company, Gerber Products Company and later as a lunch aid and bus driver for the Holton Public Schools until her retirement. Alice was a member of the Holton Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed counted cross stitch, crocheting, sewing, knitting, reading, word puzzles and watching the birds. Alice enjoyed being an independent widow after Elmer passed away and made improvements to her home well into her 80s. Alice is survived by her daughter, Martha (Charles) Street of Holton; her grandchildren, Geoffrey Bitson, Aubrey Bitson, Alyssa Bitson, Molly Bitson; her brother, Franklin Sallgren of Whitehall; brothers-in-laws, Thurlow (Mary) Stagner; Robert Isley; sister-in-law, Eileen (Glen) Ferguson; many nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her infant son; sisters and brothers, Richard Sallgren; Robert Sallgren; Ethel Sallgren; Barbara Baird; Delores Isley; Dolly Stagner; Lula Belle Critchett. Private services will be held at a later date following cremation. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Alice Burns Family to assist with funeral expense, c/o Crandell Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Oakwood Cemetery in Holton.
