Alta M. Phillips, age 84 of Hesperia, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility following a lingering illness. Alta was born on June 8, 1924 in Coldwater, Michigan to Leo and Edan (Fuller) Hodges and has been a resident of the Hesperia area for the past 30 years. Alta met and later married George Phillips in 1957 in Angola, Indiana and George preceded her in death on February 24, 2008. Alta is survived by her son, William (Linda) Phillips of Flint; her grandchildren, Deanna, William Jr.; Christina; 6 great grandchildren; her sister, Eleanor Kenny of Muskegon; Carroll Hodges; her brothers, Edwin Hodges and Leonard Curly Hodges; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Jack Goos and by her brother, Steve. Following her wishes, cremation has taken place. A time of gathering and luncheon was held on Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 1-4pm at the Hesperia American Legion 4075 S 198th Ave Hesperia MI.
