Obituary

Al Zuwerink, age 86, of Fremont passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Spectrum Health Services Gerber Memorial in Fremont. Al was born on December 10, 1927 in Fremont to Herman and Mattie (Looyengoed) Zuwerink and had worked as a driver analyst for the State of Michigan. He proudly served his country in the Merchant Marine, Navy, and then in the Air Force during WWII. Al served as Chief of Police for the City of Fremont and had also worked for Crandell Funeral Homes. Al married Helma Daum on January 11th & 12th, 1952 in Germany and enjoyed fishing, painting, gardening, and traveling. Al was a member of the Holton United Methodist Church. Al is survived by his loving wife, Helen; children, Pamela (Rick Wilson) of Fremont and Connie (Cal) Kuehnl of Muskegon; grandchildren, Bryan (Tina) Kuehnl, Anita Wiggins; great grandchildren, Valerie and Renae Kuehnl and Kyle and Brandon Coons. He was preceded in death by his two brothers. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 20 from 6 8 PM at the Holton United Methodist Church with a memorial service the following day (Saturday) at 11 AM at the Church. For a more lasting memorial, friends are asked to consider the Johnson Center for Cancer Care in Muskegon or the Holton United Methodist Church.
