Obituary

Angela Angie M. Kurtz, age 32 of Hesperia, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Hackley Hospital in Muskegon following a lengthy battle with breast cancer. Angie was born on May 2, 1976 in Muskegon to Jim and the late Marianne (Dufon) Franckowiak and met and later married Troy Kurtz on May 22, 1999 in Muskegon. Angie graduated from Reeths Puffer High School in 1994 and attended and graduated from Grand Valley State University where she just recently received her Masters Degree as a Reading Specialist. Angie has been a special education teacher for the Fremont Middle School since 1998 where she touched many childrens lives and her students truly loved her. She was active in school activities including, the Yahaba, Japan exchange program, middle school track team, and Club Pride advisor. Angie was also active in the Muskegon area where she held a fundraiser for the Hackley Cancer Center to raise funds to build an armoire on wheels to hold movies and books on CD for patients to help pass the time while receiving chemotherapy treatments. She also created a flower garden outside the waiting room of Hackley radiation department to uplift patients and their families in Gods beauty. Angie was an active member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Hesperia and St. Michaels Catholic Church in Brunswick where she was the high school religious education teacher. Angie is survived by her husband, Troy; her son, Travis; her father, Jim Franckowiak of Muskegon; father & mother-in-law, Reg & Judy Kurtz of Twin Lake; her sister, Holly (Alan) Champoux of Muskegon; her brothers, Kevin (Stacy) Franckowiak of Muskegon; Scott (Kelly) Franckowiak of New Berlin, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Michelle (Dave) Scamehorn of Montague; her nieces and nephews, Joey, Morgan, Emily, Tristin, Madison, Jordyn, James, Chloe, Spencer, Macyn; special aunt, Joan Dietrich of Muskegon; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marianne on Feb. 2, 1985. Mass of Resurrection was held on Friday, June 6, 2008 at the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Brunswick with Rev. Father Mike Alber presiding with interment in the St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery. Friends may consider the Angie Kurtz Benefit Fund at either Newaygo County Service Employees Credit Union or any Fifth Third Bank for memorial contributions in memory of Angie.
