Annie Pearl Baker Annie Pearl Baker, age 74, passed away Wednesday morning, February 23, 2000 at Spectrum Health Downtown Campus in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was born on January 24, 1926 in Merriwether, South Carolina, the daughter of Gussie Pearl (Bussey) and Henry Harper Philpot. She was raised in South Carolina and moved to Chicago in where she married Fesser Gilliam. One son, William Joseph was born to this union. She later married Louis Jerry (L.J.) Baker in 1982. She moved to White Cloud in 1953 where she had worked at the Gerber Hospital and White Cloud Products. She was also self-employed as owner of The Rib Crib near her home and operated an adult foster care facility in her home. In 1984 she worked as a Foster Grandparent for Newaygo County. She was a member of the White Cloud Empowerment Center Church of God in Christ. She is survived by her husband, Louis Jerry Baker, one son, William Joseph Gilliam of Grand Rapids; two foster daughters, Louise Donaldson of Chicago, Illinois and Verena Clark of Flint; adopted daughter, Maxine Johnson of White Cloud; four grandchildren, Montsho, Oleyemi, Hanna-Rebecca and William J. II all of Grand Rapids; three foster grandchildren, Tanya, Natari, and Limaria, all of Chicago; one great grandson; three foster great-grandchildren; three sisters, Beatrice McCain of Edgeville, S.C.; Geneva Williams of Augusta, GA; and Georgia Simpkins of Washington, DC; two brothers, Gus Philpot of Clarksville, S.C., and Lucius Philpot of Augusta, GA; Funeral services were held on Monday, February 28, 2000 from the White Cloud Empowerment Center Church of God in Christ with Superintendent Robert E. Smith presiding with interment in the White Cloud Cemetery. Friends may consider the family for memorial contributions, c/o Crandell Funeral Home in White Cloud.
