Areldine Charles, age 87, of Battle Creek passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018, at Heartland Health Care Center in Battle Creek. Areldine was born on August 18, 1930, in Hesperia to Harold and Nellie (Williams) Chaney and married Louis E. Charles on June 5, 1948. She had been a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Battle Creek and was a book keeper at Farm Credit Services. She enjoyed winters in Texas and shuffle boarding. Areldine is survived by her sons, Dale (Carol) Charles of Kentwood, Gary (Shirley) Charles of Paris, Tennessee, and Dennis (Kathy) Charles of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Emily (Paul) Henley, Kurt (Melissa) Charles, Brett Charles, Brad (Brandi) Charles, Sara E. (Brian) Farr, Holly Jo (Ryan) Morris, and Alex D. (Sarah) Charles; great-grandchildren, Scarlett Henley, Francesca Henley, Drake Henley, Atlas Henley, Soren Henley, Kyla Charles, Keith Charles, River Charles, Caiden Charles, Chloe Charles, Eli Morris, Ava Morris and Cooper Charles; sister, Margaret Rhodea of Grand Haven; and son-in-law, Gary Smith of Fremont. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis in 2004; daughter, Carol Jo Smith in 1969; sisters, Dorothy Brown of Florida 2012; Bernice Curren in 2013; brother, Harold Chaney 2016. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 5, 2018, from 11 AM - 1 PM at the Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont.
