Obituary

Arleen P. Saum, age 93, of Fremont was called to her heavenly home on May 5th after a brief stay at the Harbor Hospice Residence in Muskegon. Arleen was born on May 12, 1921, in Wyoming, the daughter of the late Peter and Alice Zeeff. Arleen was a graduate of Godwin Heights High School and worked a short time as a secretary after graduation. She later worked at Gerber Products Company, retiring in 1982 after 28 years of service. Arleen married the love of her life, Robert Saum on March 23, 1974. Together they built their home and spent many years raising horses, dogs, and her beloved kitties on the farmstead. A self taught musician, Arleen enjoyed playing piano, sharing her faith and love of the gospel, painting ceramics, gardening, baking and spending time with her family. She was a longtime member of the Country Bible Church in Fremont, where she enjoyed playing piano for many years. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert of Fremont; children, Colleen (Glenn) Quick of Fremont and Craig (Dianne) Ritsema of Fremont; step-children, Bruce (Kris) Saum of Fremont and Molly Thompson of White Cloud; grandchildren, Colette (Chuck) Rogers, Melissa Edwards-Mumah and Dusten (Dana) Quick; step-grandchildren, Jacob (Amy) Saum, Jessica (Cody) VanAlstine, Amy (Matt) Bordeaux, and Jodi (Dennis) Cosby; great-grandchildren, Dallas Mumah, Joshua (Amy) Rogers, Autumn (Garrett) Erbes; Wyatt Quick, Whitney Quick; brother, Richard (Lois) Zeeff of Bradenton Florida; sister, Nancy (Larry) Kuipers of Grand Rapids; brother-in-law, Ken (Pam) Saum of Muskegon; great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her grandson, Gavin Quick; sister and brother-in-law Marcia (Lou) Zondervan; father in-law and mother-in-law Gayel & Lila Saum. Following her wishes of cremation, a Memorial Service will be held Saturday May 16th, 2015, at the Country Bible Church in Fremont (3145 W 24th Street) with Pastor Wes Smith officiating. There will be a time of visitation and receiving of friends starting at 2:30 p.m., with the Memorial Service to begin at 4 p.m., followed by a luncheon. Private interment will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery. For a more lasting memorial friends may consider Country Bible Church or Harbor Hospice of Muskegon.
