Hoffman, Arlene O. Arlene O. Hoffman, age 80 of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at her home following a short illness. Arlene was born on January 24, 1925 in Chelsie, Oklahoma to Odis and Pearl (Gordon) Gambel. Arlene assisted in the family trucking and farm business before owning and operating her own beauty shop in Midland for 14 years. She then became involved in commercial real estate leasing and moved to New York City for several years. Retirement brought her back to Michigan. She was an active member of the All Saints Catholic Church where she served on the Pastoral Council and as an officer of the Council of Catholic Women in the All Saints Catholic Parish, the Montague Deanery. She also served as President for the Grand Rapids Diocese Council of Catholic Women and was Province Director for the 7 diocese of Michigan on the National Council of Catholic Women for 2 years. She was also an active participant of the All Saints Council of Catholic Women Annual Style Show and Women Clowns, who visited residents of Transitional Health Services, Newaygo Medical Care Facility and Fountain View. She enjoyed spending time with her family, was an avid gardener and enjoyed many flowers at her home. She is survived by her children, Vernon (Teresa) Gray of Hemlock; Melody Gray of Fremont; stepchildren, Elizabeth (Jim) Bradley Florida; Alexandra Zimmerman of Pennsylvania; Jessica Nelson of Virginia; Victoria (Tim) Marshal of Virginia; Hillary (Joe) Lober of Virginia; Meredith (Joe) Thompson of Virginia; 3 grandchildren, Suzette (Jerimy) Loeffler; David (Pamela) Gray; Holly (Paul) Scherer; 3 great grandchildren and 12 step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Gordon Gambel; husbands Maxel Gray and Ray Hoffman. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 30, 2005 from the All Saints Catholic Church in Fremont with co-celebrants, Rev. Father Tony Russo and Rev. Father Richard Van Lente presiding with interment in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Fremont. Friends may consider the American Cancer Society or All Saints Catholic Scholarship Fund for memorial contributions in memory of Arlene.
