August Carey, age 78 of White Cloud, passed away Wednesday at the Metron Nursing Center in Big Rapids. He was born on April 1, 1922 in White Cloud to Thomas J. and Lena (Galer) Carey and married Jane W. Pluta on July 20, 1963 in White Cloud. Jane preceded him in death on Oct. 11, 1990. He has been a lifelong resident of the White Cloud area where he had been a farmer and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. He is survived by two step children, Carol (William) Fisher of Birmingham, Alabama; Kim Jackson of Livonia; his sister, Lelah Cygnar of Summit, Illinois; nephew, Thomas Cygnar; niece, Charlene Cygnar. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Julie Carey in 1988. The Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 from the St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud with Rev. Father Richard VanLente presiding with interment in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may consider the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund for memorial contributions.
