Auriel L. Dougan Auriel L. Dougan, age 83, formerly of White Cloud and Mears died of cancer at the Hospice Home of Hope in Cutlerville on February 12, 2000. The widow of the former Newaygo County Sheriff Robert W. Dougan, she was born on February 8, 1917 in Newaygo to Benjamin and Mamie (Platt) Hall and married Robert W. Dougan on October 11, 1934. Both retired from the Newaygo County Sheriffs Department in 1976. She is survived by her daughter, Ferol (Fred) Borkowski of White Cloud and son Kent County Sheriff James R. (Carol) Dougan of Sparta; son-in-law, Dr. Wayne E. Bannink of Sparta; seven grandchildren; nine great granddaughters; and one great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert W. Dougan in 1992 and a daughter, Beverly Bannink in 1997. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 15, 2000 from the Crandell Funeral Home Chapel in White Cloud with interment in the Ashland Township Cemetery.
