It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Avalon Joan Coffell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Avalon passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the age of 91. Avalon was born on Sunday, July 29, 1934, in Frankfort, starting a journey through life that was filled with warmth, compassion, and love.
Avalon's nurturing spirit, and zest for life touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. She delighted in the simple pleasures of life, with a passion for singing, knitting, crocheting, and playing bingo. She cherished the moments spent outside, soaking in the tranquility of nature. Above all, she found immense joy in her role as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Avalon leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor her legacy. She is survived by her children, Kimberly Barker, William Coffell, Michelle (Tony) Baker, and Rebecca (Robert) Sluyter. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever remember her as their guiding light. Avalon is also survived by her dear sisters, Joyce Edge and Shirley Sattler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolf William August Huhnke and Olive May Huhnke, her husband, Owen Dale Coffell Sr., her son, Owen Dale Coffell Jr, and her son-in-law, Timothy Barker
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Avalon's life during a visitation at Holton Lutheran Church - ELS in Holton, MI, on Friday, March 27th, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the same location. Following the service, a graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Holton, MI, at 12:30 pm. A luncheon will be hosted at Holton Lutheran Church - ELS at 1:00 pm, where family and friends can gather to share memories and find comfort in one another. The arrangements have been entrusted to Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont Chapel.
