Barbara Jean Brown, age 89 of Bitely, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024 at the Newaygo County Compassion Home in Fremont following a quick decline in her health.  Barbara was born on May 4, 1935 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Russell Tourner and Eleanor M. (Cole) Clay and grew up in the Sparta area.  Barbara had worked as a secretary for the City of Grand Rapids for the Grand Rapids Police Department in the Records Bureau and later at the Water Filtration Department until her retirement.  Barbara met and later married Hale R. Brown and he preceded her in death.  Barbara enjoyed living on the lake, fishing, and had been a member of the Baldwin Lion's Club in Lake County.

Barbara is survived by her children, Kenneth Trowbridge of Big Rapids; Cary Trowbridge of Bitely; Richard (Sandra) Trowbridge of White Cloud; several grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; her brother, Randy (Sue) Clay; several nieces and nephews.  Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Hale E. Brown; her son, Dennis Trowbridge; her brothers and sisters, Russell Jr., Raymond, Roberta, and Dolores "Dee".
