Barbara J. Lanting- Miles, age 87 of Bitely, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 1, 2022 following a short illness. Barbara was born on July 29, 1934 in Grand Rapids to John and Verla (Bishop) Czarnopys. Barbara had worked for the Kent Community Action Program for 24 years in Grand Rapids until her retirement. After retirement, Barbara moved permanently to the Bitely area where she began a longtime commitment of community service to the Bitely community. Barbara had served on the Merrill Township Board of Review, had been a trustee, served as treasurer of the Woodland Park School House Restoration project and was a strong supporter in many community activities. Barbara was never one to sit idle for long and also enjoyed all types of crafts – knitting, crocheting, painting, ceramics, leather carving but especially enjoyed and spent many hours sewing and quilting. She was a member of several sewing and quilting groups. Barbara was a person that people felt comfortable with from the minute they met her and she always had a listening ear and was known for her caring heart. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Sherry Jarvi of Cincinnati, Ohio; Debra Mosolovich of Bitely; Robin Lanting-Wabindato of Grand Rapids; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; her twin sister, Patricia VanderPloeg of Grand Rapids; David (Sharon) Czarnopys of Grand Rapids; Geraldine Cartwright of Florida. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Miles; her son, George Lanting Jr; 2 brothers and 1 sister.
