Bernice Ellen Gouker, age 83, of Fremont and formerly of Illinois, went home to be with her Savior Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Bernice was born on September 28, 1937 in Oregon, Illinois, to Lambertus H. and Edna Isabel (Berger) Boomgarden and married Robert Lee Gouker in 1956 in Oregon, Illinois. Bernice and Robert spent many years wintering in Florida and have fond memories of time spent there. Bernice had been a cook in the Illinois School Systems for many years and had been a dining center manager for Stronghold Presbyterian Camp in Illinois. She was an avid reader, great cook, and loved crafting, traveling, and card games. Bernice's faith was an important part of her life and had been a lifetime member of the Oregon Presbyterian Church and attended St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church when in Florida. She cherished her grandchildren and took great pride in spoiling all of them.
Bernice is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Tom) Leiter of Fremont; daughter-in-law, Virginia Gouker of Illinois; grandchildren, Emma Leiter of Fremont and Sarah (Dan) Olree of Traverse City, and Stacey (Bryan) Scheffler of Illinois; great-grandchild, Riley Olree; and many special friends and family including nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her husband, Robert and son, Scott Gouker.
