Bernice Marie "Corky" Torrie, age 74 of Newaygo, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 at her home following a short illness. Bernice "Corky" was born on April 8, 1940 in Muskegon to Glen and Minnie Love and later married Jack Torrie on December 8, 1956 in Muskegon. Bernice "Corky" has been a resident of the Newaygo area for over 20 years where she had been a homemaker. Bernice "Corky" had enjoyed hunting and fishing in her younger years, dancing, crocheting, was known for her cooking, and was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bernice "Corky" and Jack had spent time together truck driving and also enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida where Bernice "Corky" worked with and volunteered with the Boston Red Sox program during their spring training . Bernice "Corky" is survived by her husband, Jack of Newaygo; her children, Jacqueline (Terry) Rose of Irons, Michigan; Renee St. Cyr of Newaygo; Cynthia Funderburg of Newaygo; Bradley Torrie of Newaygo; Lamont Farrell of California; Jack Farrell of New Mexico; Willard "Willie" Farrell of Ionia; Peggy (George) Schindorf of Ionia; Charlotte Krueger of Ionia; 6 grandchildren, Jack (Pam) Funderburg; Chad (Maria) Farrell; Crystal (Jack) Serio; Wenona (Wes) Evans; Julian Evans; Brandon Torrie; Nevada Whitewing; several great grandchildren; her brothers, Ken Love; Mike (Mickey) Fox; her sister, Glenna Davis; special friends, Bob, and Carol. Bernice was preceded in death by her son, Robert Torrie on November 2, 2014 and by several brothers and sisters. A time of remembrance and memorial luncheon will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 2pm at the St. Mary's Church Fellowship Hall-239 W Clay Ave, Muskegon, MI 49440.
