Beth Tanis, age 85, of Fremont, passed away at home on Sunday October 8, 2000. She was born on April 10, 1915, in Chicago, Illinois, to Harry and Alice (Sutherland) Miner. She came to Newaygo County at age 14 and graduated from Grant High School. Beth worked for many years as a clothing buyer for Mattie Reber, Shoecrafts, and for Dancers in downtown Fremont and retired in 1980. Beth was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Fremont and attended the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ with her daughter for the past several years. She was married to Arthur Tanis on May 18, 1935, in Reeman and he preceded her in death in 1989. She is survived by 2 daughters, Beverly Williams of Fremont and Sally Wauchope of Grand Rapids; 6 grandchildren, Kari (Peter) Fenwood of Hamilton, Marc (Kerry) Miller of Germany, Eric (Rada) Miller of Las Vegas, Debra Ham of Grand Rapids, John (Khuanla) Wauchope of Grand Rapids, and Scot Wauchope of West Palm Beach, Florida ; 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister Jean Gates of Fremont. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 11, 2000, at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel with Rev. Vernon VanDerWerff and Rev. Frank Vietze officiating. Interment was in Bridgeton Cemetery.
