Obituary

Betty Lou Head, age 86, of Fremont and Green Valley, Arizona, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2008. Betty Lou was born on September 26, 1921 in Canton, Ohio and her family soon moved to San Mateo, California where she attended and graduated from San Mateo Junior College. Betty Lou met and later married Floyd Head on May 26, 1942 in Reno, Nevada. Betty Lou started work for NBC Radio as a Sales and Traffic Manager in both the San Francisco and Los Angeles offices. During this period, she also served as an on-air radio personality for several popular radio shows. She eventually moved on to film work and acted in several motion pictures. Betty Lou was a former Screen Actors Guild member and was a strong supporter of the theatrical arts throughout her life. After Floyds transfer and their move to the Fremont office of Gerber Products Company in July 1959, Betty Lou became an active volunteer in the Fremont community. Betty Lou was one of the founders of the original Fremont Civic Theater and served as a founding board member. She was also an active volunteer member of the HAGS at Gerber Memorial Hospital for many years. Betty Lou had participated in many other community services and philanthropic projects in the Fremont area throughout her lifetime as well. Betty Lou enjoyed playing tennis, golf and most importantly, was an avid Bridge player. Betty Lou was an active member of the St. Johns Episcopal Church in Fremont and was the recipient of the Bishops Cross for her many efforts on behalf of the church. Betty Lou is survived by her husband Floyd, sons, Dan (Gabriela) Head (Tucson, Arizona; Ron Head of Phoenix, Arizona; and Gary (Nancy) Head of Dewitt, Michigan; 5 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Head on February 16, 2000. An Episcopal Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Fremont. For a more lasting memorial, friends may consider a donation to the Fremont Area Community Foundation for the Susan L. Head Memorial Fund or the Head Family Scholarship Fund.
