Betty Marie Simpson, of Fremont Michigan, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 in Muskegon, Michigan. She was born January 14, 1922 in Detroit to Guy and Doris (Keefe) Smith. Betty graduated from Fremont High School in 1939. She was a member of the Fremont Christian Church and began singing in the choir while in high school. She also served as a deaconess and as a member of the Women's Fellowship.
Betty met her future husband, Ward, at the church and also worked with him at Gerber Products Company. They married on October 17, 1943. She later worked at Graichen's in Fremont as a clerk, and then, as the accountant, until retiring in 1980.
Betty and Ward enjoyed square dancing for many years, which provided opportunities for making new friends and traveling to Europe and Hawaii. After they retired, they spent winters in the South, bringing along their square dancing attire.
Betty and Ward were married for 68 years, until his passing on January 11, 2012. Betty was also preceded in death by her brother, James Smith. She is survived by her son, Larry Simpson, daughter Judy (Doug) Hostetler and grandchildren, Liam Simpson, Fiona Simpson, Daniel Hostetler and John Hostetler.
