Lavon Jane "Bonnie" Martin, age 82, of Fremont passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Bonnie was born on July 20, 1937, to Lowell Edward and Edith Merle (Alexander) Frees and spent her life caring for others and raising her family. She was active in the Foster Grandparent Program in Newaygo County and enjoyed cards, especially euchre, and crafting. Bonnie is survived by her children, Harvey (Deb) Dean of Hesperia, Mindy (Rich) Clark of Hesperia, and Lori (Dan) Slate of Fremont; grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Vliem, Bryan Dean, Stacey (Josh) Young, Brandon (Teresa) Slate, Robert Slate, Christine (Brian) Schiller, Rich (Michelle) Clark, and Tiffany (Aaron Olson) Clark; many great-grandchildren; brother, Tom Frees of Hesperia; and many nieces and nephews. She was blessed with 3 step-children, Carol (Moe) Forrest, Linda (Art) Long, and Terry Gilbert and their children John (Paulette) Botten, Kelly (Bill) Connell, Katie Brauer, and Michael Brauer. Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, William Miles Martin; son, Harry Gilbert; and special friend, Marge Balcom. There will be a visitation and time to meet with the family on Sunday, January 12, 2020, from 2 – 4 PM at the Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont.
