Obituary

Masters, Dr. Brooker Lowell Brooker Lowell Masters M.D., of Fremont, passed away peacefully at home on Friday evening, November 10, 2006. Brooker was born on January 26, 1918, to Ira Lowell and Addie Masters in Plymouth, Indiana and was a graduate of Indiana University for both undergraduate and medical school. He was a veteran of WWII and served as a flight surgeon in the 10th Reconnaissance Group of the Army Air Corps. In 1946, he began family practice in Fremont, and during 1957-58 served as the Medical Director of Blue Cross / Blue Shield of Michigan. He served as the President of the Michigan State Medical Society 1973-74, as well as serving many years on the Michigan delegation of the American Medical Association. He enjoyed medical politics and retired from general practice in 1977. He subsequently spent many years in emergency medicine, long term care, and community service, notably as the Chairman of Newaygo County Community Mental health for the last 8 years. He is survived by his wife, Laura Elliott Masters; children, Diane Masters of Fremont, Jeff and Joan Masters of Ann Arbor, Craig and Rilee Masters of Baldwin, Lorie Masters and husband Jack Rose of Washington DC, Bruce and Toni Masters of Bailey, and Patty and Roger Vanderstelt of Twin Lake; stepchildren, Joe and Janice Martin of Fremont, and Heather K. Martin of Ludington; grandchildren, Ian Rose, Truman Masters, Tyler and Andrew Masters, Suzanne and Rachel Martin, Danielle Converse, Brenda and Kelly and Kenneth and Benjamin Vanderstelt; sister, Dorothy Cox of Lake Jackson, Texas; his wifes parents, Rev. George and Natalie Elliott of Fremont; and his former wife Laura Jean Masters. A Requiem Mass was held Tuesday, November 14, 2006 from the St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Muskegon with Rev. Father Edward Scully of Albion officiating. For a more lasting memorial, friends are asked to consider giving to Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont or the Organ Restoration Fund of St. Pauls Episcopal Church.
