Barton, Bruce R. Bruce R. Barton, age 65 of Grant, formerly of Newaygo, passed away Monday at his home. He was born on April 12, 1938 to Orland and Dortha (Kelso) Barton and married Joy Salacina on December 20, 1956 . He had worked as an electrician and retired as a stockroom supervisor from Gerber Products Company in Fremont . He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joy of Grant; his children, Arthur (Kristi) Barton of Pensacola, Florida; Alan (Pam) Barton of Newaygo; Shelley (Jeff) TerAvest of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Anna (Derek) Wilson; Aaron, Andrea, Nicole and Nathaniel Barton; his mother, Dortha Barton of Plainwell; his brother, D.O. (Ethel) Barton of Owosso; several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews Memorial services were held on Thursday at 11:00am from the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. Interment will follow at the Ashland Township Cemetery . Friends may consider the Harvest Baptist Church in Grant for memorial contribution in memory of Bruce. Barton was freed from any years of illness, pain and suffering and is now whole again and walking with the Lord he loved so much. Bruce was born on April 12, 1938 in Plainwell , Michigan . As a young man Bruce served his country in the United States Navy where he learned the trade of electrician. HE later practiced his trade and then became stockroom supervisor at Gerber Products Company where he was employed for 26 years. Bruce loved the outdoors and enjoyed golf, fishing, and hunting. He could fix anything and found enjoyment restoring antique tractors. An avid amateur radio operator (KA8KAW), Bruce spent many hours talking with friends far and wide. In the mild summer evening, he took simple pleasure in sitting around a campfire with friends at Long Lake . Bruce is survived by his loving wife and tireless caregiver, Joy; children, Arthur and Kristi Barton, Alan and Pam Barton, and Shelley and Jeff TerAvest; grandchildren, Anna and Derek Wilson; Aaron, Andrea, Nicole, and Nathaniel Barton; mother, Dortha Barton; brother D. Orland Barton; and several aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the many fine healthcare professionals who cared for Bruce over the years. They gave their best to heal, sustain, and comfort him and his family. For a more lasting memorial please consider the Harvest Baptist Church in Grant.
