Buzz L. Smith, age 53 of Fremont, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon after his 7 month battle with cancer. Buzz was born on November 1, 1961 in Grand Rapids to Gerald and Lois (ONeil) Smith and later graduated from Orchard View High School in 1980 where Buzz ran cross country. Buzz has been a resident of the Fremont area since 1997 and had worked at Sun Chemical for 27 years. Buzz enjoyed hunting, fishing, road trips and camping with family. Buzz also enjoyed the Michigan outdoors, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, hobby farming and remodeling homes. Buzz is survived by his life partner, Cheryl McAlinden of Fremont; his children, Karly Smith (fianc, Nickolaus Deanes) of Spring Lake; Meghan Smith (significant other, Jacob Crawford) of Fremont; Tyler Smith (significant other, Morgan Proctor) of Fremont; Jeffrey McAlinden of Gun Lake; Jeremy McAlinden (significant other, Ashlee Koone) of Muskegon; Corey McAlinden of Muskegon; 2 grandchildren, Jeffrey Boy Big McAlinden Jr. and Mya McAlinden; his parents, Gerald and Lois Smith of Muskegon; brothers and sisters, Jerry Smith of Muskegon; Len (Kim) Smith of Hesperia; Carla (Jeff) Benson of Ravenna; Clark (Tammy) Smith of Muskegon; Clair (April) Smith of Ravenna; Laretta (Jeff) Zimmer of Muskegon; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. MEMORIAL SERVICES : Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 12pm at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel with a visitation from 10:30 12pm at the funeral home.
