Byron (Barney) R. Fowler, age 96, of White Cloud passed away at his home on Monday, November 15, 2010. Barney was born on March 17, 1914, in White Cloud to Clarence D. and Belinda (Biddle) Fowler and has been a life long resident of White Cloud. He married Margaret Stone on November 7, 1941 in Newaygo. Barney was a Army veteran of WWII serving as a Captain in the field artillery. He was co owner of Fowler & Burke Standard Oil Co. in White Cloud for 10 years, postmaster in White Cloud for 25 years, and after retirement served for 17 years on the board for the Commission on Aging, also several years on the Advisory Council of the Agency on Aging Council of Western Michigan in Grand Rapids. He was a charter member on the White Cloud Rotary Club, life member of the VFW, member of the Elks Club, and member of the American Legion. Barney is survived by his daughters, Mary (Steve) Bleiler of White Cloud and Jane (Craig) Einberger of Howard City; 6 grandchildren, Mark (Karen) Bleiler, Melanie Bleiler, Mindy (Jeff) Thiessen, Matthew Bleiler, Jason Meadows, and Jodi (Andy) Lopez; 12 great grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Baumunk of White Cloud and Velma Matson of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret in 2002; brother William Fowler, sister in law, Hazel Fowler; and brothers in law, Gordon Baumuck and Matty Matson. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 12- 4 PM at the Crandell Funeral Home in White Cloud, and on Friday from 10 11 AM. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud with Father Peter O. Omogo officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in White Cloud.
