Obituary

Carl R. Hult of White Cloud went to be with his Lord on Monday, May 17, 2010 following a brief illness. He was born on August 4, 1921 on the family farm of Henning and Ruth Erickson Hult which was just East of White Cloud on the White River. He attended White Cloud Public Schools, graduating in 1939. Following graduation, Carl moved to Chicago and started working with his uncle and father in the metal heat treating business. During WW II he served in the army in the Pacific theatre. While in the service he married Evelyn Elliott at the White Cloud Methodist Church on June 24, 1944. After the war, the couple moved first to Chicago and then to Clarendon Hills, Illinois where they raised their two sons as he continued to work in the metal heat treating business. Following his retirement in 1986, Carl and Evelyn returned to White Cloud and lived in a home on a corner of what had been his familys farm. They loved to travel and camp and managed to see almost all of the U.S. and Canada this way. A partial list would include Yellowstone and the Tetons, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Big Bend area of Texas, Southern California, Pacific Northwest, Alaska and the Alcan Highway (before it was paved), Canadas James Bay, Blue Ridge Parkway/Smokie Mountains, and the Canadian Maritimes. In addition, they particularly enjoyed their yearly trips to Parke County, Indiana for the covered bridge festival. Carl loved animals and enjoyed feeding the birds and walking his Pekingese dog around town. He was an active participant on the White Cloud Cemetery Board and served as the chaplain of the White Cloud VFW Post #2053. He also enjoyed the occasions when he was invited to the White Cloud Public Schools where he would reminisce about White Cloud and WW II. Another source of pride was being a member of the first undefeated White Cloud football team and he still watched as many home football games as his health would allow. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn; two sons, Richard (Bonna) Hult of Big Rapids and Dennis Hult of Howard City; three granddaughters, Dara Hult of Warrensburg, Missouri, BreAnne (Chris) Sthultz of Watertown, Massachutes and Kylene (Andrew) Goforth of Niwot, Colorado; and three great grandchildren, David, Daniel, and Ashley. He was preceded in death by his parents Henning and Ruth; brother, Nels Hult; and two sisters, Frieda (John) Foster and AnnaMae Hult. VISITATION : Thursday, May 20, 2010 from 5-7pm and Friday 12-2 at the Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Friday, May 21, 2010 at 2pm at the Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel. INTERMENT : White Cloud Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : White Cloud V.F.W. Friends may send a condolence or share a memory with the family online at www.crandellfh.com. Carl was a very dedicated Chaplin and member of the White Cloud VFW Post 2053. He often told me that I was the 8th Commander whom he served under as Chaplin. He stated he had been Chaplin for 20 plus years. Carl served as our Americanism Officer and worked with the Schools and kids and was our Historian. He passed on to many, his stories of WWII, most recently working with students of Ferris State College who inquired of him, history of WWII that he had to offer. Carl will be greatly missed by our Post, as he was a big part of it. May God Bless his wife Evelyn and family. Respectfully, Samuel Cruzan Commander White Cloud VFW Post 2053 Posted 5/18/2010 have many wonderful memories from when I was in junior high through the 1990's. Square dancing in your home in Clarendon Hills, to visits in White Cloud. May all of your wonderful memories comfort all of you. I know how much it hurts right now for your loss, in time the weight of the loss gets lighter. You are all in my prayers. Bonnie Homola
