Carl A. Stender, age 86 of Hudsonville, formerly of White Cloud and Jenison, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014 at his home. Carl was born on Feb. 21, 1928 in Iron Hill, Iowa to Lawrence C. and Nellie M. (Ross) Stender. Carl joined the US Army Air Corp in 1946 and served as a Sgt. during W.W. II. Following his return from the service, he met and later married Margie Lou Bickford on Nov. 12, 1952 in Maquoketa, Iowa. Margie preceded him in death on April 17, 2008. Carl lived in Jenison and had worked at the Blackmer Pump Foundry and retired as a superintendent in 1990 and then moved to the White Cloud area until 2010 when he moved back to Hudsonville to be with his family. Carl was a Life Member of the Newaygo V.F.W. where he served on the Honor Guard for many years; member of the White Cloud Eagles; member of the Grandville American Legion; member of the Cooties and enjoyed spending time at his cabin in White Cloud where he hunted and fished. Carl is survived by his daughter, Nikki (Rick) Nelson of Hudsonville; his grandchildren, Samantha Nelson; Mackenzi Doornbos; Austyn Doornbos; RJ Doornbos; sister-in-law, Doris Yaddoff of Maquoketa, Iowa; Janice Mohr of Bettendorf, Iowa; Rosemary Bickford of Maquoketa, Iowa; Santha Bickford of Stevens point, Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Kris Johnson of Jenison. Carl was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde Stender; sister, Betty Schmidt; nephew Mick Johnson.
