Carol J. Bliss, age 80 of Brohman, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2002 at her home following a lingering illness. She was born on November 8, 1921 in Roslyn, South Dakota to Julius and Oline (Rindahl) Strand and married Frederick E. Bliss in 1957 in Indiana. Frederick preceded her in death on September 10, 1999. She has been a resident of the Brohman area since 1969 and had been the Director of Financial Aid at the Ferris State University in Big Rapids until her retirement in 1980 and was a member of the Ameritus Society at Ferris State University. She had also been active in the Monroe Township Government where she served as treasurer for 10 years. She is survived by her children, Frederick J. (Betty) Bliss of Brohman; Miki A.L. (Veronica) Bliss of Sand Lake; Ronald W. (Patricia) Hughes of Albuquerque, New Mexico; James J. (Sonia) Hughes of San Francisco, California; William (Lynne) Hughes of Stanton; step-daughter, Elizabeth Howland of Harvard, MI; 8 grandchildren, Tammy Boehm; Sonia, James, Robert, Julane Hughes; Wesley, Jason, Heather Schuler; 4 great grandchildren, Fred Lee, Eric Boehm; Brent Westbrook; Kierra Horger; sisters, Myrene (Louis) Braun of Rapid City, South Dakota; Ilene (George) Gordon of LaQuinta, California. She was preceded in death by a infant son, Randy Warren and brother, Lloyd Strand. Private memorial services were held on Sunday, March 24, 2002 at the Bliss Family Home in Brohman following cremation with Pastor Lucky Fulton presiding with interment of the remains in the Monroe Township Cemetery in Woodville, Michigan. Friends may consider the Fremont Area Community Foundation for Hospice of Michigan for memorial contributions.
