Carolyn L. Comden, age 67 of Zeeland, formerly of Fremont, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014 at her home. Carolyn was born on May 16, 1946 in Pontiac, Michigan to Dr. Richard H. and Edith M. (Teak) Berg. Carolyn graduated from Central Montcalm High School in 1964 and later attended Cedarville College. After moving to Fremont, Carolyn initially worked for the Fremont Public Schools and later became a librarian at the Fremont Public Library, where she had worked for 24 years until her retirement in 2011. Carolyn was a member of the Dayton Center Wesleyan Church where she served as a lay minister. She taught adult Sunday school classes for 40 years and served on the Dayton Center Wesleyan Church and Fremont Wesleyan Church Boards of Administration. Carolyn enjoyed reading, playing the piano, watching NASCAR, and cheering for her grandchildren at their sporting events. She also was a volunteer with the special education programs at the Fremont Public Schools. The family wishes to thank Spectrum Health Hospice staff for all of their wonderful care and support, especially Christie, Janelle, Dawn and Pastor Bill.
Carolyn is survived by her two children: Tony (Marcy) Comden of Zeeland and Beth (Jon) Wilmot of Zeeland; five grandchildren: Riley and Jed Comden; and Caleb, Ethan, and Andrew Wilmot; and her sister, Susan Rigas of Olivet. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Lisa Marie Comden, in 1972.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Dayton Center Wesleyan Church, 2192 S. Comstock Ave., Fremont, MI 49412 at 2:00 p.m. with a time of visitation with the family following the memorial services at the church with Pastor Terry Hansen presiding with interment in the Entrican Cemetery near Stanton. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the West Michigan Miracle League (www.wmml.org) in Carolyn's memory.
