Charles Anderson, age 85 of Fremont, passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 at his home. Charles was born on November 12, 1929 in Ishpeming, Michigan to Henning and Evelyn (Lundin) Anderson and later married his wife Joan. Charles joined the United States Navy in 1948 and served at the Great Lakes Naval Station as a corpsman until his discharge. Charles then began work at the Michigan State University Campus Police Department for several years until he moved back to Marquette where started with the Department of Corrections Marquette Branch Prison. In 1964, Charles moved back to the Fremont area and became a parole/probation officer with Newaygo, Mecosta, Oceana and Lake Counties until his retirement from that position in 1984. Charles then started work as a supervisor at the Muskegon Correctional Center and later became bailiff for the Newaygo County Circuit Court until his full retirement. Charles loved to hunt, fish and watching sports, with a strong affection to the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and an avid Michigan State fan and Fremont Packers fan. Charles enjoyed socializing with the breakfast groups for coffee at the local restaurants in Fremont and was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fremont. Charles especially treasured his time spent with his children and grandchildren and following their activities. Charles is survived by his wife, Joan of Fremont; his children, Garth Anderson of Fremont; Kevin Anderson of St. Joseph; Wendy (Rick) St. Peter of Fremont; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; his brother and sisters, Willie (Nancy) Peterson of Marquette; Donna Johnson of Marquette; Marylou Beaudry of Marquette; his sister-in-law, Jean Anderson; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Anderson MEMORIAL SERVICES : Sunday, June 28, 2015 at 1pm at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fremont. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : First Congregational United Church of Christ or Bay Cliff Camp in the Upper Pennisula. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.
