Charles F. Bengtsson, age 78 of Hesperia, passed away Monday, August 12, 2024 at the Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.  Charles was born on March 12, 1946 in Muskegon to Edward and Viola Mae (Ward) Bengtsson and later graduated from Hesperia High School in 1964.  Charles enlisted in the United States Army where he served during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge and returned back to Hesperia.  He married Furlo Booher on September 29, 1968 in Bitely and has been a lifelong resident of the Hesperia area.  Charles had been a machine inspector at Sealed Power for many years until his retirement in 2003.  Charles enjoyed the Michigan outdoors – hunting, fishing, gardening; enjoyed horses and was a proud dog owner.  He and Furlo had attended over 100 concerts throughout the years and was not one to sit idle for too long.  Even though he was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in his 40's, he never let his diagnosis slow him down in life and had been a mentor to his family and friends through the years.

Charles is survived by his wife of 56 years, Furlo of Hesperia; his son, Tim Bengtsson of Newaygo; his brother, Dennis (Nancy) Bengtsson of Hesperia; several nieces and nephews.  Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Viola Bengtsson and his sisters, Arlene J. Roberson and Lola M. Smith.

VISITATION : Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 2-4pm at Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel 7193 W. 48th Street Fremont MI 49412.  MILITARY HONORS will be given at 4:00 pm with a TIME OF SHARING AND CELEBRATION OF CHARLES to follow the military honor.  Burial will take place on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 5pm at the East Hesperia Cemetery.  Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Fremont Area Community Foundation for the Perry Booher Memorial Fund.  Friends may send a condolence or share a memory with the Bengtsson family online at www.crandelfh.com.  Arrangements by Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel.  231-924-0800.
