Charles L. Benton, age 71 of Bitely, passed away Monday evening, April 4, 2016 at his home following a short illness. Charles was born on July 4, 1944 in Cadillac, Michigan and later moved to the Newaygo County area where he had been a resident for the past 30 years. Charles had been an automotive mechanic for 26 years at various garages in the area, worked as a hi-lo operator at Hi-Grade Concrete and also worked at Deur Implement in Fremont as a tractor mechanic for several years. Charles was the widower of Mary who passed away in 2008. Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and simply being in the Michigan outdoors. Charles is survived by his sons, Bruce (Collette) Benton of Fremont; Jonathon (Monica) Benton of Cedar Springs; Lanny Benton of White Cloud; 5 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Mary and his parents, Burton and Bessie (Ray) Benton.
