IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles "Chuck"
Floyd Clark
April 27, 1948 – January 26, 2025
Charles (Chuck) Floyd Clark, age 76 of Newaygo passed away on January 26, 2025. Charles was born April 27, 1948, to Walter F. and Margaret I. Clark (Vachon) of Grand Rapids, MI. Charles married his wife of 53 years, Bonnie Fewless (Lentz) on April 16, 1971.
After graduating from Kentwood High School in in 1967, Charles proudly began his service in the United States Army on August 12, 1968. He was a Helicopter Crew Chief for the HHT 7/1 Air Cavalry where he was stationed in Vietnam for 13 months. Chuck received several service medals and was honorably discharged on April 22, 1970.
Chuck knew at an early age that his passion was in the building trades. Chuck spent many of his days building homes and creating dreams. Charles was fortunate to be able to spend most of his career next to his father and his four sons. There was no better place for Chuck than on a bulldozer or backhoe. The love for his time on heavy equipment and building showed through the results of his work. Everyone trusted that if it was his job site, they were going to get some of the best quality work, even in the later years when he would "supervise" from his truck. His extreme work ethic and love for construction allowed him to be a successful contractor, own a lumberyard, manage his rental businesses, and storage units. Chuck was known as a tough but highly respected boss to the many young people that needed work or wanted to learn from one of the best.
Chuck worked hard and played hard as well. As a young man Chuck enjoyed his dirt bikes, golfing, bowling and had a love for vintage cars. However, the one consistent thing Chuck loved almost as much as his family was his days on the water catching largemouth bass. Chuck loved to fish locally as well as in Okeechobee, FL where he would spend many of his winters. He was always up for a day of fishing where anything caught could turn into a contest. On rare days Chuck wouldn't win those contests, and he would find great joy in the repercussions of his normally quick wit and his own smart comments. One time, in a sorrowful loss to his best fishing buddy Bob Shutts, he was denied sprinkles on his ice cream, "because sprinkles are for winners" and Chuck did not win that day.
Charles is survived by his wife Bonnie; Children John (Missy), Randy (Stacy), Adam (Jamie), Robert (Sam); grandchildren, Chloe, Bradden, Cassie, Sarah, Melody, Morgan, Megan, Felicia, Olivia, Ally, Wyatt, Sofie, Charlotte and 13 great grandchildren; brother Dick Clark and sister Pat Saur; several brother and sister in laws, nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Walt & Maggie and brother Bill. Charles will be missed by his family as well as the many people he worked with throughout west Michigan. His family will be comforted by knowing he now has an endless supply of sprinkles because he was truly a winner in life.
Honoring those that have served and those that have supported our veterans was a legacy that Charles believed in. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project. The family will be donating to the Mid-Michigan Honors Flight to support a guardian's fee to accompany a veteran on their trip to Washington D.C.
