Gastfield, Charles L. "Charlie" Charles L. Charlie Gastfield, age 98 of Fremont, passed away Monday, November 13, 2006 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Charlie was born on September 28, 1908 in Highland Park, Illinois and later moved to the Fremont area where he graduated from Hesperia High School in 1926. He met and married Barbara Bird on October 30, 1937 in Michigan City, Indiana and was a member of the Hesperia United Methodist Church. Charlie had been the assistant plant manager at the Gerber Products Company in Fremont for many years until his retirement in 1973. He had served as president of the Newaygo County Fair Association for over 25 years and loved raising quarter horses on his farm. Charlie is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara of Fremont; his daughter, Julia Ann (Gary) Bowerman of Warrensburg, Missouri; son, C. Wayne Gastfield of Fremont; 5 grandchildren, Kellee (Mike) Seif of Orlando; Kristi Bowerman of Rolla, Missouri; Stacey Bowerman of Springfield Missouri; Tammy (Lon) Christoffersen of Fremont; Lori Burton of Detroit; 8 great grandchildren, Benjamin Seif of Orlando, Casey Christoffersen of Grand Rapids, Kaite Christoffersen of Grand Rapids, Karly Christoffersen of Fremont, Cody Christoffersen of Fremont, Sarah Burton of Detroit, Michael Burton Jr. of Detroit, Nancy Lee Burton of Detroit; 1 great great grand daughter, Alayna Longe of Detroit; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Erma Gastfield, Anna Gastfield, Jane Kemp and his brother, Wilbur Gastfield. Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 18, 2006 from the Aetna Calvary Church with Pastor Phil Jones presiding with interment in the East Hesperia Cemetery.
