Merten, Charles Joseph Charles Joseph Merten, age 82 of Fremont, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at the Transitional Health Services in Fremont. Charles was born on August 30, 1922 in Hart, Michigan to Baldomer J. and Norma (Hansberger) Merten and married June Crawford on January 20, 1953 in Angola, Indiana. He moved to the Fremont area in May 1946 from Hart and had been a produce inspector at the Gerber Products Company in Fremont until his retirement on September 1, 1987. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, June of Fremont; his daughter, Cynthia Merten of Comstock Park; his son, Gregory (Laura) Merten of Grant; his sisters, Mary Hammerle of Hart; Lorraine Reinders of Jackson, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Margaret; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bernard Merten in September 2002. Military graveside services were held on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at the Maple Grove Cemetery under the auspices of the Newaygo V.F.W., Sportsmans Post #4249.
