Obituary

Chester "Chet" E. Scott, age 87 of Fremont, went Home to be with his Lord, on Monday, October 18, 2021. He was born on June 9, 1934 in Fremont to Robert and Ivah Mae (Salisbury) Scott and graduated from Fremont High School in 1952. He later received his Bachelors of Science in Trade-Technical Education from Ferris State University. Chet married Norma Jean Dickinson on July 27, 1956 at the First Baptist Church in Fremont and has been a lifelong resident of Fremont and enjoyed everything automotive – restoring, rebuilding, and educating. He served the Fremont Public Schools as bus mechanic, transportation supervisor, and automotive instructor at Fremont Public School. In 1972, he became the lead automotive instructor at the Newaygo County Tech Center until his retirement in 1994. Chet developed an introductory driving range in the south parking lot of the Fremont Middle School where he taught drivers education training for almost every Fremont School student from the mid 1960's until the mid 1990's. He had also served on various community boards throughout the years. Chet served in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany, until his honorable discharge and return back to Fremont. He was a Charter Member of the Faith Baptist Church in Fremont where he served as a Deacon for many years. Chet would spend Memorial Day weekends with his family at Lake Ann Baptist Youth Camp where he worked on maintenance and repair projects, directed program activities for campers, and served as a counselor. Chet is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma Jean of Fremont; his children, Pastor Ronald Chett (Naomi) Scott of Flushing, Michigan; Dr. Dennis Lee (Corinne) Scott of Greenville, South Carolina; Melany (Mark) Goetsch of Pensacola, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; his sisters, Betty (Leonard) Hughey of Idlewild, Michigan; Linda (Louis) Nicholes of Muskegon; his sister-in-law, Inez Bayle of Hesperia; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Chet was preceded in death by his sister, Olive McLean and his brother, Robert Scott.
