Clara Mae Johnson McKinney was born on November 9, 1936, to the union of Harvey and Bettie Belle Brooks Johnson in Tunica County, Mississippi. Clara was a sibling of fourteen children, nine sisters and five brothers. She met and married Johnny Philip McKinney on March 17, 1954. To this union was born three children, son, Stewart and daughters, Linda and Marilyn. Clara was baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Ghost speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance under the Pastorate of the late Lottie Glen-Gibson. Clara loved the Lord and was a witness for Jesus. Clara gave a word of courage to everyone she met. Clara was a fifth generational mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother. She was a good cook, seamstress, hairdresser, and hard worker for Wolverine Worldwide for over 37 years. Everywhere you went people requested her blueberry – peach cobbler. Clara made her transition on January 2, 2017.
Clara leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Linda McKinney Soward and Marilyn Robinson; step children, Wesley Johnson, Johnny McKinney Jr., and Ellis Johnson; grandchildren, Sherry Soward, Prentiss Robinson, Geneva Robinson, Isaiah Robinson, Kymberlee Richardson, Ryeisha McKinney-Yancy; great-grandchildren, Junelle Miller, Wayne Miller, Rykeva Moore, Jaden Smith, Shaneia Richardson, Nyisha Smith, Elijah Robinson, Azari Yancy, Shaylia Richardson, Kailyn Yancy, Kara Yancy, Shakeem Richardson; great great grand daughter, RhiAnnon Miller Keehn; sisters, Bessie Maude Evans, Evelyn Virginia Johnson, and Catherine Johnson; brother, Elder David Lawrence; and a host of friends and other family. She was preceded by her husband, Johnny McKinney in 2011; her parents, Harvey and Bettie Belle Johnson; five sisters, Daisy, Addie Lee, Hattie Mae, Emma Belle, Bettie Ruth; brothers, Willie B., Henry, Mack, Wardine, and Harvey Jr.; and one son, Johnny Stewart McKinney.
Homegoing services for Clara will held on at noon (12 PM) on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at the Glory Of The Latter House Ministry (17 East Echo Drive White Cloud, Michigan 49349) with Pastor Jeff Murchison officiating. There will be family time and visitation at the Church one hour prior to the service (11 – 12PM). Interment will be in Lilley Cemetery.
