Obituary

Maurer, Clare W. Clare W. Maurer, age 58 of Croton, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at his home. He was born on January 14, 1945 in Croton to Norman Gene and Ruth Emily (Tawney) Maurer and has been a lifelong resident of the Croton area. He had been a computer programmer at the Gerber Products in Fremont and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the Michigan outdoors. Clare had been a member of the Croton Township Fire Department for 25 years where he served as chief for many years. He was instrumental in establishing the E-Unit at Croton Township Fire Department, had served on the Newaygo County E-911 Committee, had served on the Newaygo County Fire Chiefs Association. He is survived by his son, Michael (Tricia) Maurer of Croton; his daughter, Lori Robinson of Croton; his former wife, Sherry Maurer of Croton; his brothers, Richard Maurer of Croton; Merrill (Connie) Maurer of Sand Lake; his sister, Marguerite (Merle) Holmes of Muskegon; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Ruth Maurer, his sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Dave Bisel, his nephew, Jeffrey Bisel. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 from the Croton Community Church (Note location - old church building) in Croton with funeral Celebrant Curt Crandell and Clare W. Maurer family and friends presiding with interment in the Croton Township Cemetery. Friends may consider the Croton Township Fire Department for memorial contributions.
