Clarence Ritsema, age 95 of Fremont, entered into his eternal home on Friday, February 14, 2014 at his home. Clarence was born on June 4, 1918 in Grand Rapids to Henry and Ada (Pylman) Ritsema and graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School. He met and later married JoAnn K. Vledder on August 29, 1981 in Fremont and was a charter member of the 2nd Christian Reformed Church in Fremont. Clarence had worked at Gerber Products Company as the assistant to the National Sales Manager for 35 years until his retirement. Clarence was a veteran of the United States Army where he served during World War II and was a long time member of the Fremont V.F.W. Post #6898. Clarence had played Taps at the Fremont Memorial Day Ceremonies in the Veterans Memorial Park for 60 consecutive years and had also played taps at many military funeral services. Clarence had enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida and playing shuffleboard. Clarence is survived by his wife of 32 years, JoAnn of Fremont; his children, Colleen (Glenn) Quick of Fremont; Craig (Dianne) Ritsema of Fremont; 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; his sister, Criss (Gene) Dalman of Grand Rapids; his brothers, Henry (Arlynne) Ritsema of Grand Rapids; Larry (Pearl) Ritsema of Grand Rapids; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Clarence was preceded in death by his grandson, Gavin Jon Quick on November 11, 1994; his sister, Vi Buiten; and his brothers, Fred and John Ritsema. Following his wishes for cremation, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 1:00pm at the Second Christian Reformed Church with a time of visitation from 11:30am until the time of the services. Military rites will be given at the church following memorial services. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Second Christian Reformed Church or Harbor Hospice in memory of Clarence.
