Obituary

Claude E. Hendrie, age 77 of Fremont, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Claude was born on August 23, 1941 in Fremont to Maver Guy and Beatrice Lucille (Howard) Hendrie and graduated from Fremont High School – Class of 1959. Claude joined the United States Army shortly after graduation where he served during the Vietnam War. Claude later married Patricia Hastings on October 24, 1969 in Fremont. Claude had worked for Gilliland Transfer for 25 years and then started work at the Muskegon Construction Company where he worked until his retirement. Claude had enjoyed golfing and had played baseball for many years during high school, during the Vietnam War and when he returned to Fremont and then served as an umpire for baseball. Claude had been the president of the Fremont Packer Backers, was a Life Member of the Fremont Moose Lodge #1555 for 59 years, member of White Cloud Eagles, Aerie Post; Elks Lodge in Muskegon; Holton American Legion Post #397, and Construction Union in Muskegon and enjoyed visiting with his classmates and friends. Claude is survived by his wife, Patricia of Fremont; his children, Matt (Donna) Hendrie of Fremont; Jennifer (Jeff) Vanzant of Holland; known to his grandchildren as "Funny Grandpa" - Paisley Hendrie, Paxton Hendrie and Landen Vanzant; his sister, Karen (Gary) Lobdell of Big Rapids; his uncle, Don Hendrie of Lakewood Club; close friend, Jess Deephouse, many cousins. Claude was preceded in death by his parents, Maver and Beatrice Hendrie; his sister and brother-in-law, Linda (Tom) Bergklint of Fremont and his sister, Marsha Hendrie. TIME OF GATHERING for rememberance : Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 1pm – 4pm at the Fremont Moose Lodge 15 W. Main Street Fremont MI 49412 with MOOSE AND CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICES at 2pm at the Fremont Moose Lodge. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS : please consider memorial contributions to the Fremont Moose Lodge Roof Fund OR Fremont Athletic Programs at the Fremont Public Schools.
