Clayton Lee Higgins, age 85 of Grant, passed away Wednesday evening at his home. Clayton was born on June 12, 1919 in Grant to Lee Isaac and Eva (Peterson) Higgins and married Edna M. Williams on January 18, 1941 in North Mills, NC. He has been a lifelong resident of the Grant area and had been a millwright at Brunswick Corporation in Muskegon until his retirement in August 1984. He was a veteran of World War II where he served as an Aviation Chief Machinist Mate in the United States Navy. He was a life member of Newaygo V.F.W Sportsmans Post #4249; loved cutting wood and spending time in the woods; enjoyed stonework; traveling the country with his family and was an avid history and aviation buff. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edna of Grant; his children, Shirley J. (Scott) Shears of Grant; Debbie (James) Arend of Salem, New York; Kathleen C. (Dennis) Gundling of Cota De Caza, California; Anna (Ron) Jensen of Newaygo; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his sisters, Erma Bisard of Ravenna; June Campbell of Muskegon; Betty Beebe of Kent City; his brothers, Lee (Lennie) Higgins Jr. of Tennessee; Walter Bill (Paula) Higgins of Grant; Archie (Judy) Higgins of Newaygo; Jim (Betty) Higgins of Grant; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda Higgins; sister, Marge Richardson; brother, Fern Bud Higgins. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 22, 2004 from the Ashland Township Cemetery in Grant with Rev. Joe Hatter of the Ashland Center Church of Christ presiding with military rites given by the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsmans Post #4249.
