Cleo Paul Warner Sr., age 72 of Fremont, passed away Monday at his home following a short illness. Cleo was born on May 2, 1932 in Dowagiac, Michigan to Cleo and Ida (Cutler) Warner and moved to Hesperia at age 12. He joined the United States Navy where he served for 4 years during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge and moved back to Hesperia. He met and married Nancy Louise Tonensing on November 19, 1955 in Hesperia and soon after joined the United States Air Force where served during the Vietnam Era until his retirement as a Staff Sergeant in 1972. He later became a truck driver for Direct Transit in Grand Rapids until his retirement in September 1993. Cleo was a member of the Resurrection Life Church in Newaygo, a member of the Disabled American Veterans of Big Rapids; and member of the Retired Air Force Sergeants in Coopersville. Cleo enjoyed his church, cards, and puzzles. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy of Fremont; his children, Lori (Art) Michael of Fremont; Melody Gardner of Hesperia; Paul (Joan) Warner of Fremont; 8 grandchildren; his sisters, Joan (Slim) Knox of Hesperia; Ann Neibarger of Newaygo; Karen Baker of Fremont. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Bird. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at the Resurrection Life Church in Newaygo with Pastor Erik Harvey presiding with interment in the Reeman Cemetery in Fremont. Military rites were given under the auspices of the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsmans Post #4249. Friends may consider the Resurrection Life Church in Newaygo for memorial contributions in memory of Cleo.
