Clotilda "Tillie" Ruskowsky, age 78 of White Cloud, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at her home following her battle with cancer. Tillie was born on August 10, 1943 in Knott County, Kentucky to William Matteson and Virgie (Conley) Hollon. Tillie married Ernest G. "Ernie" Ruskowsky in 1980 and Ernie preceded her in death. Tillie moved to the White Cloud area in 1988 from Martin, Michigan. Tillie had worked at Light Metal Industries in Grandville and after her marriage to Ernie Ruskowsky, spent her time devoting herself to loving her children and making a wonderful home for them. She had also been a longtime volunteer for the Foster Grandparents Program in White Cloud. Tillie was proud of her Kentucky roots and loved to talk about the old days in Knott and Perry County, Kentucky before she moved to Michigan at the age of 6. She was an Appalachian Girl all the way through. She was an avid reader of Amish books and collected many of them. She loved to shop at Walmart and if there is a Walmart in heaven, that is where you will find her. She loved music and playing the guitar as she grew up in a music family and spent countless hours talking about how much she loved listening to her brother play and in her younger days had spent many hours with her family playing country music that she loved. She spent many hours watching her birds at her birdfeeder and knew all of them by name and loved gardening flowers in her flower garden. Tillie fiercely loved her children and grandchildren and gladly made sacrifices for them through the years. Her 2 favorite souls outside of her family were her dogs, Sadie and Lady of which they spent countless hours by her side up until her passing. A quote she wanted her family to remember was "Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that's the way I will remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then please don't remember me at all" Tillie is survived by her children, Melissa VerStrat-Jonaitis (Timothy Haney) of White Cloud; Jamie (Jon) Sheldon Phillips of White Cloud; Chelsie Sheldon (William Tate) of White Cloud; Joshua Sheldon of White Cloud; William (Hazel) Ruskowsky of LaPorte, Indiana; Jesse (Janice) Ruskowsky of Arizona; Kelly Trueblood of Arizona; her grandchildren, Jacob (Faith) Sheldon; Kaleb Phillips, Rebecca Ruskowsky, Rachel (John) Bechner) her great grandchildren, Connyr Murray, Ava Shuker, Leon Sheldon, Ivan Sheldon; her sister-in-law, Pauline Hollon of Orangeville, Michigan; sister-in-law, Rose Hollon of Lake Havasu, Arizona; her best friend, Carol Albright of White Cloud. Tillie was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie; her great granddaughter, Iris Sheldon; her sisters, June Hollon-Glintzer; Florence "Kitty" Smith; her brothers, Jack Hollon and Raymond Hollon. Following her wishes, a private family gathering will be held at the family home in White Cloud following cremation.
