Obituary

Craig William Grunow, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away peacefully at his residence in White Cloud, MI, on Sunday, May 18th, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on Wednesday, September 8th, 1937, in Saginaw, Michigan, Craig lived a life of service and dedication to his family, community, and country.

A proud veteran, Craig joined the United States Navy in 1955, where he served his nation with honor. Following his military service, Craig embarked on a distinguished career as a Michigan State Trooper, retiring in 1988. His commitment to public service continued as he took on roles as the Chief of Police in White Cloud and as a bailiff at the Newaygo County Courthouse.

Craig's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife, Judy Ann (Green) Grunow, of White Cloud, MI, and a large and loving family. He is survived by his daughter Lisa (Rick) Zahrt and her children, Anna (Evan) Slayton and Craig Ryan Hathaway; his son Scott (Amy) Grunow and their children, Craig James Grunow and Gabrielle (Shannon) Fessenden; his son Patrick and his daughter Whitney Schornagel; his step-son Eric (Lynette) Webster and his children, Ryan and Danielle Webster; his step-daughter Susan (Tim) Frisbie and their children, Justin (Kelsey) Frisbie, Kayleigh Frisbie, Erica (Ryan) Woodford, and Adam Frisbie; his sister Kathleen Reinhardt; and 24 cherished great-grandchildren.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin H. and Selma K. (Zurcher) Grunow; his sister Judi Grunow; his daughter-in-law Lindy Grunow, and his brother-in-law Ed Reinhardt.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Crandell Funeral Home Inc in White Cloud, MI, on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a Rosary service at 7:00 pm. A second visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud, MI, on Thursday, May 22nd, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

The funeral mass, officiated by Father Noah Thelen, will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday, May 22nd, 2025, at 11:00 am, with military honors to follow at the end of the service. A graveside service will follow at Big Prairie-Everett Cemetery in White Cloud, MI, at 1:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Craig's memory to the Trooper Kevin Marshall Memorial Scholarship, through the Fremont Area Community Foundation.

Craig will be fondly remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his country and community, and his enduring spirit that touched all who knew him. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crandell Funeral Home - White Cloud. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
