Crystal June Kempf, age 90, of Fremont passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Spectrum Health United Memorial Hospital Kelsey Campus in Lakeview. She was born on June 9, 1914, in Muskegon to Walter and Clara (Venske) Schroeder and married Maxwell Kempf on November 13, 1937. She was a former member of Order Of The Eastern Star Magnolia Chapter and lived and farmed in the Sitka area for many years. Crystal was a member of the Sitka United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. Crystal is survived by her husband Maxwell of Lakeview and formerly of Fremont; daughter, Pat Shriver of Lakeview; son, Tom Kempf of Fremont; 8 grandchildren, Kris Balaskovitz of Whitehall, Kim Carr of Lakeview, George M. Shriver of Lakeview, Kelly Nielsen of Lakeview, Angie Gibbie Fremont, Thomas Kempf of Holton, Lisa VanBoven of Fremont, and Tricia Luchies of Fremont; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Virginia Torrey. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 18, 2004, from the Crandell Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Judy Corey from Hospice of Michigan officiating.
