Tanis, D. Lorayne D. Lorayne Tanis, age 73 of Fremont, passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Gerber Memorial Health Services in Fremont. Lorayne was born on June 24, 1936 in White Cloud to Oren and Donna Doryce (Draper) Stratton and graduated from White Cloud High School in 1954. She later married Robert C. Tanis on June 28, 1957 in Fremont and Robert preceded her in death on November 26, 2003. Lorayne had been the librarian at Daisy Brook Schools, worked for Fremont Family Physicians as a medical assistant and later retired from the Gerber Life Insurance for many years until her retirement. Lorayne was a life member of the Newaygo V.F.W. Auxiliary where she had been active member and also a member of the Fremont Moose Auxiliary. She had enjoyed horseback riding in her younger years, camping, gaming and ceramics. She is survived by her children, Dale Tanis of Fremont; Denny Tanis of Fremont; Penny (Jeff) Cook of Fremont; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; her sisters and brothers, Marilyn (Pete) McLenithan of Middleville; Maxine (Stanley) Butkus of Grand Rapids; Keith (Beatrice) Stratton of Wyoming; Jerry (Kathy) Stratton of Hesperia; LeRoy (Hope) Stratton of White Cloud; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy Tanis in 1969; her sister, Mary Jean Reed and brother Lyle Stratton. VISITATION : Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. She adored her Grandchildren. I worked with her at GLIC, a spit fire she was. Never had to guess why you kids turned out the way you did... She was a truly wonderful person. I sat next to her for many years at Gerber Life and she was absolutely terrific to work with.
